This article examines the phenomenon of systemically important banks (SIBs) in the financial sector of the
Republic of Uzbekistan. The criteria for identifying SIBs in accordance with the methodology of the Basel Committee
on Banking Supervision and the approaches of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan to determining the list of
systemically important credit institutions are analysed. The mechanisms through which SIBs influence financial stability
are investigated, including concentration risks, lending effects, and interbank contagion channels.
